Imerj Smartpad, Dual-Screen Smartphone

Imerj Smartpad is a prototype of a hybrid device that, thanks to a double AMOLED display and a super design with clamshell opening, can be transformed from smartphone to tablet. Very interesting is the device's ability to render three images on three different displays, which is equipped with both an HDTV and external.

Imerj is a small American company, which these days has presented a prototype of a hybrid device, which can change from smartphone to tablet with the ability to open "clamshell", thereby providing a second display. This way, you can choose to display different images on each display, for example, the client for messages on the first screen and virtual keyboard on the other, or the same image on both.

Imerj Smartpad it is able to render up to 3 images on three separate displays: the two that fitted and one which must be connected to the outside, such as a high resolution TV. During the presentation it was shown Smartpad while playing video on TV and at the same time allowing you to navigate with the browser on a display or play Angry Birds on the other. Imerj Smartpad is based on Google's Android operating system and is equipped with a Texas Instruments OMAP SoC, consisting of a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 and developed by PowerVR graphics subsystem.

So far, I do not know the precise pattern of SoC adopted, so we do not know if you have the CPU frequency 1.0GHz, 1.5GHz or 1.8 GHz and uses that version of the PowerVR GPU. The SoC is coupled with 1 GB of DDR3 RAM and an SSD with cuts ranging from 32 to 128 GB, expandable thanks to a MicroSD slot. The two displays are of the type as mentioned Super AMOLED and have a diagonal of 4 inches each, with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, are protected by the famous Gorilla Glass, a special glass particularly resistant, and divided by the thin frame that acts as a hinge.

The prototype is also equipped with a 5 Mpixel camera, thanks to the kind of opening the device, or can be used to take photos or webcams and video chat to the front. The camera can then also take movies with high quality, at 720p. Connectivity includes WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G WWAN well. The battery is 1750 mAh instead. Imerj, in collaboration with Frog Design which has developed the prototype, the device also has some software specifically developed for it, as the mail client that displays the list of messages on a display and the text of each of the other and a full screen browser.

The only limit is the current need for the developer, having to customize the existing app so they can be used in full screen mode.
